Polypak produces various types of packaging using polymers that have multiple benefits over regular packaging materials.
Benefit 1: Polypak bioproducts can replace disposable plastic items under the Directive (EU) 2019/90
Our bioproducts qualify as biodegradable as stated in the Directive. When disposable plastic bags have been completely banned, Polypak bioproducts will make a good replacement.
The Directive (EU) 2019/904 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 5 June 2019 on the reduction of the impact of certain plastic products on the environment https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/dir/2019/904/oj
The objectives of this Directive are to prevent and reduce the impact of certain plastic products on the environment, in particular the aquatic environment, and on human health, as well as to promote the transition to a circular economy with innovative and sustainable business models, products and materials, thus also contributing to the efficient functioning of the internal market.
‘Single-use plastic product’ means a product that is made wholly or partly from plastic and that is not conceived, designed or placed on the market to accomplish, within its life span, multiple trips or rotations by being returned to a producer for refill or re-used for the same purpose for which it was conceived.
‘Biodegradable plastic’ means a plastic capable of undergoing physical, biological decomposition, such that it ultimately decomposes into carbon dioxide (CO2), biomass and water, and is, in accordance with European standards for packaging, recoverable through composting and anaerobic digestion.
Benefit 2: Polypal BIO bags breathe well and keep the foods fresh for a long time
Natural polymer packaging is designed to breathe. It keeps the bread, fruits, and vegetables fresh for a long time and normally prevents them from getting moldy. The quality of the material and the manufacturing process of biodegradable bags have been improving for years; therefore, they provide perfect conditions for food storage. They don’t affect the taste or appearance of the foods. This means that you don’t have to waste the food that, for some reason, has been kept longer that was supposed to.
Benefit 3: Polypak cares about the performance of final products
The BIO bags, for example, are designed to have the same size as regular plastic bags. As we know the specifications of a biomaterial, we manufacture the BIO bags that are capable of withstanding the same workload as plastic bags.
Benefit 4: Polypak bioproducts can help make your business more sustainable
The European Central Bank has identified a major source of systemic risk, as described in the preliminary results of the economy-wide stress test that was designed to assess the impact of climate change on 4 million companies and 2,000 banks in 30 years.
The final results are expected in July 2021. They will be further used to model the response of the banks that can reduce operations involving companies that present higher environmental risks, to evaluate the impact on global economy and the effects on insurance companies and non-banking financial organizations.
Benefit 5: Bioproducts are associated with lower CO2 emissions
According to economists, increased attention of central banks to reaching net-zero CO2 emissions is going to play a crucial role in cash flows (crediting, investing, etc.).
How do Polypak bioproducts help reduce CO2 emissions? Plants consume CO2 from the atmosphere, as they grow. During burning or composting, natural polymers release the same amount of CO2 as was captured for photosynthesis. Thus, using and recycling natural polymers result in much lower emissions of CO2 compared to oil-based polymers.
Benefit 6: Bioproducts degrade well in the nature
In landfills, natural polymers are exposed to bacteria that degrade them. Depending on the thickness of the bag or film, weather and temperature conditions, and the amount of bacteria, it can take eight weeks to a few months for biopolymers to decay. Polypak natural polymers eventually become the initial biomass enriching the humus of the soil.
Benefit 7: Polypak BIO bags can be used as compost bags
If you have ever happened to recycle multicomponent waste, you definitely know that paper bags easily absorb the content and let water through losing their strength, and therefore they aren’t always good to use. On the contrary, Polypak BIO bags are waterproof and remain durable even when they are wet. Therefore, if your bag doesn’t look so good after being reused for a long time, you can use it for garbage or compost.
Benefit 8: Polypak bioproducts are not toxic
Conventional polymers may release pollutants such as plasticizers (bisphenol A), that take a lot of time to disintegrate. All components of the natural polymers, on the other hand, are easily degradable in the nature.
Benefit 9: BIO bags are all-purpose
Only one out of five regular plastic bags are used twice before being thrown away. Biodegradable bags are all-purpose and reusable. First of all, they can be used as a food shopping bag. When you are not happy with its looks anymore, you can use it to keep fresh foods in it. We only recommend avoiding exposure to mold. When the bag looks bad, it can be used as a compost container. Even in this case it’s useful: it helps enrich the humus of the soil and make a good environment for new plants to grow.
